Creating and supporting residents' associations

Mitali Housing Association has helped residents set up associations at Cranberry Lane in Canning Town, and Beech Court in Ilford.

These are fairly large estates with an ethnically diverse and disadvantaged population. The residents' associations are made up of housing association residents, private tenants and leaseholders. We work closely with the residents' associations to improve our services provided to them and external organisations, including local authorities and the police.

At Cranberry Lane we work closely with our partner organisation East Thames Housing Association to support and develop the role of the residents' associations.

There are currently two projects which the residents are working on:

  • a new creation of a community garden
  • setting up of childrens after school activity group.

Reducing anti-social behaviour and increasing children’s heath.

We work with a large number of children to encourage them to keep fit and play responsibly. For the last two years we helped create and arrange a football tournament which brought together the youngsters in a fun, safe, supervised environment, doing what kids should be able to do burning energy in a positive way.
