
Job Ready Kier September '09 Report

The Tower Hamlets Summer University (THSU) Job Ready Program aims to develop a youth focused support program for young people aged 16-25 when making the transition from school, higher education, unemployment and periods of incarceration onto employment. The target groups are NEET young people.
Job Ready Objective

To progress young people onto employment/or onto a progression route to enhance their prospect of employability.

To refere young people to training/ suitable program according to their needs.

Equip each young person with the skills and attributes essential for being "job ready"

Help young people understand their potential and show them the avenues to achieve it.

Deliver an effective Job Ready Program in dynamic teaching style, which would enage the young person and help them understand the subject matter.

Help them achieve an accredited Level 2 qualification.

Develop effective partnerships between sectors, including local authority, employment agencies, vocational trainers, careers advisors, educational institutions, business and industry
Recruitment
The recruitment for Job Ready was very successful, we had applicants and only 15 places to fill. We also found that Job Ready has developed a great amount of interest due to its success and the partnership with Burberry.
The following methods were used to recruit young people for the Youth Ambassadors scheme, these included:

Emailing the referres who work with NEETs

A4 flyers which were distributed locally and sent to Youth Clubs

Promotion on the THSU and SUL website, with online application features

Job Ready Officer and Youth Worker went to NEET fairs to publicize the programme

The Job Ready Officer and Outreach worker went to Youth Clubs and signed up young people

Job Ready Manager and Job Ready Officer went to meet referrers to explain more about the Job Ready programme and given put materials
