Here at Mitali we believe that environmental concerns such as climate change are real, and pose a threat to the long term survival of the earth as we know it.
Many of our residents have family links to Bangladesh, a densely populated country which has a long coastline vulnerable to rising sea levels and natural disasters such as cyclones and flooding. Hence the urge to act to mitigate such occurrences is brought home to us more starkly.
The U.K will also be vulnerable to the effects of changing weather patterns. So, we are taking action locally, here in the East End of London to ensure that we can all live, work and enjoy healthy and happy lifestyles . Future generations wil be grateful that we tool steps to protect their environment too.
Whilst environmental sustainability is concerned mainly with the physical environment, it interacts with the other two main aspects of sustainability which are social progress and economic growth. We have recognised this and will implement measures to ensure that we take a holistic approach to dealing with the challenges which confront us.
Environmental strategy and action plan
Mitali, being part of the Network Housing Group has signed up to its Environmental Sustainability Strategy and we have developed a unique and comprehensive action plan targeted at our residents, staff and stakeholders. It covers all areas of our activity with the aim of reducing waste and carbon emissions.
We recently produced an advice leaflet on sustainable living which can be found here.
We also have links to organisations who will assist us to implement many of the actions we have identified. These organisations include local authorities, government bodies and charities. We will also be looking to other, more established members of the Network Housing Group for asssitance in achieving our environmental targets.
Here are links to some organisations that offer help and advice on topics such as saving energy in the home to reducing fuel bills, recycling, food, cycling and other sustainable living ideas.
